Pond Turtle Tracks Video

Pond turtles come out onto the sandy river banks to lay eggs. These nice tracks show the details very well. The turtle left a parallel line of scratch marks in the sand. The most notable feature of these tracks is the marks left by the claws. The footprints are relatively light because turtles aren't heavy animals. Their claws make better marks than the feet do, so you may find claw marks only. However, in good soil, you may find the entire imprint of the foot. Their feet are webbed and webs may show up in some prints.

Turtles come out onto rocks and logs at the water's edge to bask in the sun. Since they do not make their own body heat, they need to take advantage of the warmth of the sun.
