Pond Turtle Video #2
|
This is the same pond turtle that was in the
first video. It spent about five minutes underwater and surfaced
again to breathe and look around. When the sun us shining, they will
come out to bask on rocks. The warmth of the sun warms them up. They
are known as exothermic animals, or "cold-blooded." Animals like
this need the sun to warm them as they cannot make their own body
heat. Their behavior is what keeps them warm. For example, the
behavior of basking on rocks on warm days.
The claws on the feet of this turtle help it to climb out of the water and cling to steep rock faces to get the sun's warmth. The still photos on the Turtle Photos page show this. |
